The Big Beautiful Bill Act Proposes Cutting Medicaid (aka MaineCare) by 15%

About 17 Million More People Could be Uninsured due to the Big Beautiful Bill and other Policy Changes

How does this affect Mainers?

  • 396,000 Mainers receive MaineCare benefits.
  • More than 100,000 children receive MaineCare benefits.
  • 72% of MaineCare recipients are working adults.
  • 7 out of 10 nursing home patients have MaineCare as their primary healthcare provider.
  • 11,600 veterans in Maine are on MaineCare.

Over the past decade, the number of veterans has declined, but the percentage of veterans with Medicaid has increased. Medicaid often supplements coverage for an aging veteran population.

Also:

MaineCare accounts for 20% of ALL hospital income statewide.

More than 100,000 Mainers work in healthcare. Significant cuts to MaineCare could reduce providers, support staff and/or services provided in hospitals, medical centers, and nursing homes.

MaineCare/Medicaid and Medicare represent 65% of Northern Light revenue. Northern Light is one of the only health care providers in Piscataquis County.
