“We are doing the right thing: feeding Mainers in need.” Statement from House Speaker Ryan D. Fecteau

November 7, 2025
AUGUSTA – House Speaker Ryan D. Fecteau (D-Biddeford) today issued the following statement regarding the announcement that Governor Mills has directed Maine DHHS to issue full SNAP benefits for November:
“Governor Mills, Attorney General Frey, House and Senate Democrats fought for Maine families, children, seniors, and veterans. We had a clear message: No one should go hungry. No child, no senior, no veteran should be collateral damage in yet another storm of D.C. chaos.
We are doing the right thing: feeding Mainers in need. And we are able to do so because we fought back in the courts and in the court of public opinion. We didn’t let Trump get away with cruelty for the sake of cruelty.
I am so relieved that the Mainers who rely on food assistance, like my family did when I was little, will be able to purchase the food they need. I am also proud of the Mainers who stepped up to raise money and collect food donations. Once again Mainers showed who we are in a moment of crisis. Resilient. Generous. Compassionate. Leaders in Washington could learn a lot from Maine people.”
